As kids head back to school, it’s the perfect time to refresh your family’s safety routines. Gas safety should be part of that learning.
Teach children to recognize the signs of a natural gas leak: the rotten egg odor, unusual hissing sounds, or dying plants near pipelines. Most importantly, teach them the action steps: stop, leave, and call 911. Simple, clear rules help kids remember what to do in an emergency.
Show them where your natural gas alarms are located and explain what the alarm sound means. Practice a household evacuation drill that includes alarms, just as you would with a fire drill.
These lessons not only build lifelong safety habits but also help children feel empowered as part of the family’s shared responsibility. School might teach math and reading, but safety lessons at home can make the biggest difference of all.
Gas Safety Is a Shared Responsibility.
