Spring is a natural time to reset and refresh, and it’s also the perfect time to add gas safety to your seasonal checklist.

Start with your appliances: have a qualified professional inspect furnaces, water heaters, and stoves to make sure they’re operating safely. Clear away clutter around gas appliances and check that vents are unobstructed. For outdoor projects like planting trees or building decks, remember to call 811 before you dig so you don’t risk damaging underground gas lines.

Spring is also a great time to test your home safety alarms. Just as you check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, test your natural gas alarms to make sure they’re functioning properly. If you haven’t added them yet, consider alarms near each gas appliance and in sleeping areas for early detection.

When combined, appliance maintenance, leak awareness, and alarms, these practices create layers of safety that protect your family year-round.

Gas Safety Is a Shared Responsibility.
